San Juan Ariella Fiberglass Pool, Waterfall & Screen Enclosure in DeBary, FL

San Juan Ariella fiberglass pool with handrail, waterfall and retaining wall planter
Finished pool with the handrail at the entry steps

This DeBary fiberglass pool project started with a backyard that had room for a pool, but not a lot of room to spare. We set a San Juan Ariella fiberglass pool, poured a concrete deck from the pool to the covered lanai, and added a Rico Rock waterfall. Then we finished the deck in acrylic knockdown, built a bronze pool screen enclosure over the whole space and added a retaining wall planter outside the screen. Southern Construction handled the whole project in 2022.

How we built it

  1. Shell set. We dug, set the San Juan Ariella shell level, plumbed it and backfilled it.
  2. Forms. Forms went in for the deck, the tie-in to the existing covered lanai and the curb the screen walls sit on.
  3. Concrete deck. We poured the deck around the pool and up to the lanai, and set the Rico Rock waterfall at the pool’s edge.
  4. Acrylic knockdown. The deck got an acrylic knockdown finish, which stays cooler underfoot than bare concrete and gives better grip around the water.
  5. Screen enclosure. We built a bronze aluminum enclosure over the pool and lanai with 18/14 fiberglass screen, engineered for 130 mph winds.
  6. Planter and finish. Outside the screen we built a block retaining-wall planter along the fence line, then added the entry handrail, filled the pool and started it up.

Why the Ariella works on a smaller lot

  • Compact footprint: at about 21′ x 12′, it leaves deck space for furniture and a walkway around the pool
  • Free-form shape: the curves soften a rectangular yard and give the waterfall a natural spot to sit
  • Fiberglass shell: a smooth gelcoat surface that needs fewer chemicals than plaster and never needs re-plastering
